    ABOUT THE COLLOQUIUM

Process Related Environmental Analytical Chemistry (PREACH) is concerned with methodological developments, research dedicated to the investigation of processes (natural or artificial) that release chemicals into the environment, and the elucidation of the transport and transformation of these chemicals in the environment.

The relevant methods necessarity have to be dynamic, since the fundamental requirement they have toyfulfill is the matching of the characteristic time of charge or development caused by transport and/or chemical conversion in the process under investigation. In environmental studies, such techniques are tipically applied to the investigation of ambient air, workplace atmospheres and surface waters. Relevant target areas for PREACH also include biological systems and industrial production with the control of the inherent release of waste gas and water.

The first Colloquium of this type was held in Gramado/RS, Brasil, in May 1996, where the organizers were encouraged to arrange other PREACH events in near future.

Abstracts should reach the organizing commitee no later than 31 January 1998. The abstracts should not exceed one page. The abstracts of the accepted presentations will be published in the colloquium proceedings, which will be distributed to the participants at the colloquium. Therefore the abstracts have to be in a camera-ready form in the following format.

    2 blank lines
Author(s), research institute(s), City, country (13p. lower case) 2 balnk lines
    Text (13p. lower caase)

    EXHIBITION

An exhibition will be organized in connection with the colloquium. Leading manufactures of instruments, chemicals and materials are invited to display their latest products.

    COLLOQUIUM LOCATION

The colloquium will be held in the Dipoli Congress Centre, wich is the creation of world famous architects Reima and Raili Pietilä. Dipoli is located in the heart of Finland's high technology area in Espoo, eight kilometers from the centre of Helisinki.

Espoo is Finland's second largest town and has a population of 189.000. It might be considered a virtual microcosm of Finland. The shores in the south are washed by the waves of the Gulf of Finland. In the north there are lakes and roadless virgin forest. The 165 islands and the vast expanse of woodland offer excellent opportunities for leisure-time activities.

Espoo can be easily reached by plane via Helsinki-Vantaa international airport or by ferry from the nearby countries.

    REGISTRATION FEES

The registration desk will be open from Sunday evening until Wednesday noon. All participants will be required to pay a registration fee that allows visitors to attend all of the sessions, including the get together party, the conference dinner and lunches during the conference. A book of abstracts is also included in the price. The organizing comittee regrets that no funds will be avaiable to defray travel or living expenses.
